“The epitome of the Pops Conductor/Performer.”The Washington Post

“Peter Nero is, of course, known for his piano playing, covering a range from classical concert repertoire to straight-ahead jazz. His fingers stretch as far as Tatum’s, and he practically knows no limits on the Steinway. He is also a fine conductor…Philadelphia is lucky to have him and his, by now, trademark Philly Pops.” All About Jazz

There were many people who helped lead the turnaround of Philadelphia throughout the decade of the 90s. Our goal was to make Philadelphia a vibrant, fun and exciting place to live and to do business. One of our heroes was the great Peter Nero. Peter and his leadership of the great Philly Pops were an important part of building the July 4th “Welcome America” festival. Peter injected it with excitement, fun and demonstrated a great love for the city and its people. For 34 years, he has entertained us and made us proud.

For nearly 34 years, the Philly Pops has performed the most beloved music of our times for music lovers around the world. For many years, listening to the spirited music of the Philly Pops, led by founding Artistic Director and Conductor Peter Nero, has been a tradition in the celebration of the American freedom that was born here on the 4th of July. The City of Philadelphia gratefully salutes Peter Nero for his outstanding contributions to our proud musical legacy, as he raises his baton to conduct his last concert series with the Philly Pops. Bravo, Maestro. Michael A. Nutter, Mayor – City of Philadelphia

Peter Nero is a national treasure and one of my favorite people in the music business. The Callaway family has long cherished his extraordinary blend of jazz and classical piano artistry. Then, when I had the joy and honor of singing with him in our numerous concerts over the years, I felt thrilled every time. Peter is not only a great pianist but a consummate conductor, showing wit and charm in his performances that delights everyone onstage and off! Ann Hampton Callaway

I have been privileged for the past 25-plus years to play bass with Peter Nero in hundreds of performances with orchestras, trio and duo concerts, and most happily, with the Philly Pops. All those years and performances have been a huge pleasure because of Peter’s undeniable status as one of the great pianists (and conductors) of our time and his wonderful musical imagination, wit, and tireless dedication to making each musical experience as rewarding as can be for his fellow musicians and the audience alike. This word is overly and wrongly used, but in this instance is appropriate. Peter is unique. We’re lucky to have him. Michael Barnett, Rhythm Section bassist

Congratulations, Maestro! Your impact on the music world has been profound. I and countless other fans have been moved by your virtuosity on the piano and playful interaction with audiences of all ages. I am grateful for all that you have given to the City musically and for the richness of our relationship personally. Mario Mestichelli, Vice President & Chief Financial Officer, The Philadelphia Orchestra

Peter Nero has been perhaps the most versatile and complete musician Philadelphia has ever seen. From Bach to The Beatles, from Beethoven to Broadway, he has entertained us and educated us with unique ability and for that we will be forever in his debt. Thank you Maestro!
